Hey there .. just a quick update on the slipping clutch ..
Basically, when we did the stage 3 the car was developing so much power that the clutch started slipping .. we had a few choices ..
1. try to change out for a new one .. who says this one was gone?
2. improve the bite by putting in a racing clutch .. sounds expensive!!
3. improve the bite by changing the clutch springs to barnett racing springs .. doubtful that this would work but we got these springs with the second-hand engine! .. no cost to try!!
4. we got some advice from our buddy David from sportsracer .. he used to race these engines in carts .. he says they used to replace 1 clutch disc and friction plate from the stack of 10 and replace it with one pre 1989 ZX-10 (1988-1000Z) plate and disc .. this reduces the play and the clutch becomes more robust .. we looked and the parts aren't available!!
So what did we do .. ??? !!! Predicatbly the cheapest thing ..
We replaced the stock springs with the barnet racing springs .. it took all of 1 hour and THE CLUTCH DOES NOT SLIP ANYMORE !! YAY !! finally something was easy to do!!
