Probably the most worrying thing .. and annoying thing .. is the problems we started having and indeed are trying to fix right now ..
More than a month ago Zak had complained that oil seemed to be coming out of the case/sump/block vent.

These links will take you to my picture page, these pics are near the bottom of the page.
More and more, incidents of oil in the sump and not in the oil can .. so we turned to our trusty buddy David who sold us the sump ..
David,
Hi how are things? Alls well here my daughter Cayenne was born and is doing great!
Sorry to have to keep getting back to you about some things but we need some advice with regards to the dry sump. You may need to talk to Ted about this as well!! ;o)
We have everything installed and have it filled with 7 liters of oil normally. Normal driving is fine we have never seen the oil pressure light go on so assume the pressure is fine.
Sometimes we are experiencing a situation where most of the oil is in the engine and not in the tank. As a result we are getting from time to time under hard driving, some oil sputtering out of the crank case breather and when we look at the level in the tank we notice there’s only 1 inch or so of oil in the tank.
We test the level in the tank by using a dipstick, we have no idea what the level in the engine is.
Have you any idea what’s occurring or how to diagnose what’s wrong?
Is there anything wrong?
Thanks again,
Porsche
Further to this I asked the forum .. but no-one knew anything .. more analysis ..

More conversations with David ..
Hey David,Hows things? Sorry about the long response but I’m in the UK and had to get the info from my bro in Trinidad. OK. So it ‘seems’ that there’s always more oil in the engine than in the tank. There is so much oil in the engine that the cat eye (oil level) is reading overfull .. always .. engine on or off.We have noticed that the engine is not starved of oil and that the oil cooler and tank are being filled when the engine is on, it’s just that the tank is not filling up. I would say that mostly there’s always more oil in the engine than the tank. The lowest part of the oil tank is 2.5 inches higher than the lowest part of the sump .. does this matter? How high should the tank be mounted? I’m thinking if the tank is high the oil with the engine off would mostly flow back into the engine as the tank is higher. Do y’all have any comments or observations about this ?Also how can you tell the amount of oil in the engine and tank combined? Did you have a method? Oh .. and do you think it’s the 90 degree fittings that’s somehow restricting flow?If I don’t hear from you before, have a great Christmas! Talk soon,Porsche
So by the time we got this we realised that the scavenge flow was being restricted somehow and that it was probably the cone gauze that was being blocked .. but by what .. and why .. well ..
After Zak took the sump off heres what we found ..

I will fill you in on how the engine rebuild goes .. Have a Merry 2007 Christmas!!
